UNDESA Italian Junior Professional Officers Program 2021/2022

Applications for UNDESA Rome Italy Junior Professional Officers Program 2021/2022 are now open. The Italian Junior Professionals Program (also known as the JPO Program) is a multilateral technical cooperation program sponsored by the Italian government and implemented by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA).

It enables Italian citizens with advanced university degrees (master level), good knowledge of English and Italian, and under the age of 30 (31 or 33 for internal medicine and surgery graduates) to gain work experience in international organizations for a period of two year. In the past four years, a limited number of positions have been allocated to candidates from developing countries (the least developed countries and Italy’s priority countries for development cooperation).

The purpose of the program is twofold: on the one hand, it assists international organizations in their activities by providing them with two-year technical personnel; on the other hand, it provides young qualified professionals seeking international careers with two years of work experience. Opportunities, which will expand their chances of finding suitable jobs in international organizations or in the international field.

Benefits:

The junior professional’s contract includes the following: salary, medical insurance, life insurance, pension contributions, as well as travel and transportation, job location installment and repatriation allowance.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be born on or after January 1, 1991 (for medical graduates on January 1, 1990; for medical graduates who have obtained a graduate degree in medicine, on January 1, 1988).
Italian nationality
Fluent in English and Italian

  • Obtain one of the following advanced university degrees (or combination of degrees) before the application deadline:
  • Larea Magistrale/Specialistica.
  • Larea Magistrale is ciclo unico.
  • Laurea/Laurea Triennale plus a university master’s degree.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus master’s degree from university.

    For the 2021/2022 edition, a limited number of positions will be allocated to candidates from developing countries (the least developed countries and Italy’s priority countries for development cooperation). Hold a passport from one of the following UN member states or non-member states: Afghanistan, Albania, Angola, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Central African Republic, Chad , Comoros, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, El Salvador, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Iraq, Jordan, Kenya, Kiribati, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Myanmar, Nepal, Niger, Pakistan, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Somalia, South Sudan, State of Palestine, Sudan, East Timor, and more Colombia, Tunisia, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Yemen, Zambia.
Fluent in English (knowledge of Italian will be considered an asset)
Obtain one of the following advanced degrees (or combination of degrees) from the following universities before the application deadline.

Additional Qualification :

In view of the fierce competition of the Italian JPO project and the increasing requirements of international organizations for skills and experience levels, the following projects are generally regarded as important assets:

Understand other UN official languages ​​/ languages ​​spoken in developing countries
Additional academic qualifications and/or training courses
Solid professional work experience (at least one year)
Key competencies such as customer orientation, teamwork, communication, accountability, planning, and organization.

Application :

Applications can only be submitted online through the online web application (OWA) of the United Nations/Department of Economic and Social Affairs Office in Rome. The deadline for submitting applications is December 30, 2021 at 3pm (Central European Time/Local Italian Time).
